- Where are you located?
- Avery House is at 330 Ontario Street, located within walking distance of all the theatres, restaurants and shopping. There is a helpful map on our website here.TOP
- What is the best way to book with you?
- We strongly recommend online bookings, as guests then receive an immediate confirmation which they can review to make sure that dates, room selection, and all the other details are correct. In addition, while we try to answer the phone each day from 10am-6pm, we are not always successful, and by the time we return a voice message, or an email, a guest’s preferred dates may have become booked by someone else online.TOP
- What is the difference between your “rooms” and “suites”?
- All rooms and suites have the following in common: king bed (convert to two twins in some cases), an ensuite bathroom, and breakfast included. “Suites” are larger, and offer both indoor and outdoor private seating areas. “Rooms” are smaller and less expensive, as they do not have the indoor/outdoor seating areas. Please see our comparison chart for how the various options compare in terms of size, amenities, and bathroom configurations.TOP
- Which rooms/suites have a TV?
- The Sanctuary Suite and The Cocoa Beach Suite each have a flat-screen TV in-room.TOP
- What does “ensuite bathroom” mean?
- All of our rooms and suites have ensuite bathrooms, which means the bathroom is physically located within the room or suite, and is not shared with any other guests.TOP
- How many guests can stay in each room/suite?
- All rooms and suites can accommodate a maximum of two guests.TOP
-
What forms of payment do you accept? -
- For our Canadian guests, we are happy to accept: Visa, Discover, MasterCard, cash, cheques, debit/Interac and e-transfers.
- For our American guests, we are happy to accept: Visa, Discover, MasterCard, cash, and checks. US cash and checks will be converted to Canadian dollars at the same exchange rate that our bank gives us. Please note that we do NOT accept American Express
- What do you request for a deposit?
- We ask for 50% of the total amount (including taxes) at the time that you make your reservation. The remaining 50% will be due at the end of your stay with us. For those rare one-night only stays, we request the full amount, including taxes.TOP
- What is your cancellation policy?
- We strongly encourage all visitors to purchase Travel Insurance. If you cancel 30+ days prior to your arrival date, we will hold your deposit on-file as a credit that you can use towards a visit at another time, within 12 months of your original dates.
If you cancel with less than 30 days’ notice, your deposit will be forfeited and any remaining balance for the nights that you originally booked will be due.
TOP - Can I book for a group of us that are visiting Stratford together?
- Of course! We love hosting groups of friends and “whole house parties”! When we confirm your reservation, we will ask for the email address(es) of others in your group so that we can confirm the details (food restrictions, arrival times, etc.) with each guest directly.TOP
- Can I buy a gift certificate?
- Yes! We’re happy to issue a gift certificate for any dollar amount, and upon payment we will send a PDF file via email suitable for gift-giving. We just ask for the recipients’ names so that we are able to assist when they book their visit with us. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash, but any unused balance does not expire.TOP
- What are check-in/check-out times?
-
- Check-in time is 1:30-3:30pm, and we can also make special arrangements for a later arrival, up until 6pm. Please, no arrivals after 6pm.
- Check-out time is 10:30am.
- Can I arrive early?
- Guests are welcome to come and park here at the B&B any time AFTER 1:00pm on the day of arrival. However, rooms/suites will not be ready until our regular check-in time of 1:30-3:30pm. Also, please note that we do not have bathroom facilities for those who arrive early, so a pit-stop enroute is recommended!TOP
- Can I request a late check-out?
- Please feel free to request a later check-out time prior to your arrival, and we will do our best to accommodate. However, please understand that we may not be in a position to agree, depending on that day’s schedule. We cannot honour requests for a late check-out made on the day of departure. Please note that a late-departure surcharge will apply.TOP
- Can I stay for just one night?
- For most of the season, we have a two- or three-night minimum. On occasion, we may open some rooms for a one-night-only stay, but this is rare. A last-minute cancellation or a hole in the calendar. When you hit the “click here to book” button above, and enter your arrival and departure dates, any vacancies that meet your needs will appear in the search results. There is no additional charge for a one-night stay, if we have availability.TOP

What is breakfast like? - We try to make breakfast a real celebration of local ingredients! Each morning we serve three courses – fruit, homemade granola, and yogurt to start; this is followed by fresh from-scratch baking– something like rhubarb muffins, homemade croissants, or chocolate banana-bread. Then the entrée arrives: Mediterranean Quiche with bacon one morning; Crème Brûlée French Toast with local Perth County sausages another, or a local Asparagus Frittata with Cheddar. Please note that there is no “menu” in the traditional sense, and so breakfast is always a surprise (but we are happy to try to accommodate most dietary restrictions/dislikes – please see below). TOP
- What does “family-style breakfast” mean?
- We serve breakfast in one seating at 9:00am each morning. By family-style, we mean that all of the various items for each course come out at one time, and are passed around the table while guests enjoy chatting with each other about the previous night’s theatre and dinner experiences. Coffee and tea is available for early risers, starting at 8:00am.TOP
- Can I skip breakfast?
- Our guests are on vacation, so of course if someone decides to sleep in and skip breakfast that is up to him or her! However, there is no “late-seating” option for breakfast, and we do not offer a “no breakfast” rate. TOP
- Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions/food dislikes?
- We’re happy to try to accommodate most dietary restrictions and food dislikes. We just ask that you let us know when you make your reservation with us, as we plan the menu several days in advance, and source our ingredients fresh from the Farmer’s Market and other local providers the day before. We will try to accommodate various food allergies (for example, gluten-free, nut-free etc.) but guests with extreme sensitivities should be aware that these ingredients are being used in our kitchen. Please note that we cannot accommodate egg-free or dairy-free dietary restrictions as we use these ingredients extensively. We reserve the right to decline a reservation request if we feel that we will not be able to satisfy a guest's dietary restrictions. TOP
- Is there parking available?
- Yes. We have free parking on-site for one vehicle per guest room/suite. However, more than one vehicle per guest room will need to find parking elsewhere. The City of Stratford has paid overnight parking available at the Cooper Lot and Downie Lot in the downtown core.TOP
- Do you have Wifi?
- Yes. We have free Wifi throughout the property, with multiple “routers” to insure a good signal wherever you may wander on-site.TOP
- Can I bring my child?
- No, sorry, we host guests 18 years of age and older. We are not set up for children or infants.TOP
- Can I smoke or vape in my room?
- Smoking and/or vaping are both strictly prohibited in all indoor spaces. Smoking or vaping in an indoor room, suite, or common area will result in an additional cleaning fee of $250 to remove the odour. Guests are welcome to smoke/vape in the outdoor spaces – please ask us for an ashtray, and be sensitive to other non-smoking guests.TOP
- Can I bring my pet?
- No.TOP
- Can you help with restaurant suggestions/dinner reservations?
- Most restaurants in Stratford have moved to an online reservation system on their website, where you can also review menus. That is the best way to book your table, as you'll receive a confirmation email/text from the restaurant for your notes. Each spring we do a Restaurant Newsletter for guests in which we share our thoughts on various establishments, new openings, recent closures. We do suggest reservations for dinner, especially if you have an evening performance. During the busy season, we recommend having your dinner plans sorted well in advance of your arrival as it can be tricky to get a last-minute reservation.

- What is your newsletter about?
- We publish an “email newsletter” about three or four times a year, with news that we think is of interest to our new and returning guests. Our Spring edition covers restaurant recommendations and “early buzz” about the upcoming season. In June we send an “Opening Week Review” summary of the critics’ opinions of the plays. In the fall we highlight the following year’s playbill and key casting/directing announcements. Sign up by clicking the “Join our Email List” button above; unsubscribe at any time.TOP
